Whatever happened to plain ol' Sit-n-spins? Y'know, the kind you just enjoyed for the sheer fun of spinning around on? They don't even make those anymore. Out with the old, in with the new. The one we are blessed with plays crazy loud obnoxious never ending hypertown music. I feel like I'm caught in a mix between a high speed car chase and a psychotic hoedown. The thing seriously raises my anxiety level. Now, I actually removed the batteries a good 2 years ago. (There's no off switch or volume control.) But recently, Nathan was staring at the non-working buttons and lights and deduced that the thing must do something more exciting than just spin. So he sweet-talked Wade into some batteries...NNNOOOOOOO!
NoOtherName's little girl Karin was over the other day. Wanted a turn on the blessed toy. Hello psychotic hoedown. She took one look at it and said "turn dat off!" Amen, Karin, Amen. If I could just find the screwdriver...
So, what's the most obnoxious toy your child has ever gotten? V & Swirlingeddy--any you're hoping not to get?

Psychotic hoedowns - don't knock it until you've tried it.
Can I just say that your description of the music made my day?
(. . . and do you have an mp3 copy I can have?)
You have officially joined the ranks of Vonda and Erin, blogs that can make me laugh out loud. Although I refuse to type LOL. Oops, I just did.
OH NO NOT THE SIT N SPIN!!!!!
Psychotic hoedown ah hahahahahahaha
Our spazz machine was given away last month. I feel all empty inside.
Toys we hope NOT to get?? Hm... I seem to remember some 'hand-me-downs' you all blessed us with a few years ago when we stocked our basement... and a certain LOUD toy that would go off randomly in the middle of the night that we could hear ALL THE WAY upstairs in our bed! It was EVIL!!
Actually, that one was probably a Crim hand-me-down. Toys like that would be on the list of toys we promise to sneak back into YOUR basement if you give them to us. :-)
Carla, right. Yeah, I'm sure you do. (Carla's going "tee-hee-hee...")
V, yes, I remember the toy well. And I kid you not, just the other day I think Jen mentioned something about getting the new and improved, updated version of that toy for you and what a hoot that would be. Tee-hee.
I always found that a little Scotch tape over the speaker holes worked wonders. That makes me wonder, do the people that make these toys think all children are deaf, or are they sitting in their offices laughing their butts off at what they know the parents are having to endure?
Funny Funny Funny, my dear friend! Have you seen our video clip of Z's new way of using the sit and spin? Too funny :)
We bought our sit and spin at a garage sale ... so it is truly like the one I grew up with (well, mine was blue and this one is yellow) ... no psychotic hoedowns over here. But we do have lots of Rescue Hero Toys ... so we hear lots of sirens and emergency phrases like "remain calm", "seek shelter" or "help is on the way!"
blessedw4mom, good to hear from you! Are you still on bedrest? And no, I haven't seen the video clip--is it on your blog?
Four words:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
My brother had about 10,000 of them. They are, hands down, the only thing more painful to step on barefoot than legos.
And that's sayin something.
As for toys WE don't want...Honestly, I don't really want any noisemakers. I enjoy the peace of our home.
Famous last words, right?
p.s. Ed, thanks for the rad compliment.
ComplEment?
Erin, ouch. My feet hurt just thinking about it. And as for toys you and Richard don't want for your bambino...if I'm invited to your online baby shower, I promise I'll steer clear of noise toys. :)
As long as they are not too repetitive some noise toys don't bother me. The worst we've had was probably the recorder that Pete brought home from school. I only let them play with that outside. And now that we have video games, that music gets old real fast.
Kara Jo, one of the most disappointing toys for me was the Fisher Price farm. I loved that toy when I was growing up. The barn door made a "moo" sound - so cool back then! But when I got this toy for my daughter, it was full of buttons to push to make all kinds of sounds and play all sorts of annoying music. Don't the toy manufacturers think that kids can use their imagination?
Kris, yes, my sentiments exactly! And, we had that same Fisher Price farm when I was little. (My mom actually kept it all these years and my kids play with it there.) But I have no desire to buy the current one either--for the very reasons you gave.
