Not As Easy As It Looks

Abby's been wanting an Easy-Bake Oven for over a year. She finally got one for her birthday and tonight was its initiation. She dumped the packet in the bowl. She added the water and mixed. She made the whopping 6 tiny little cookie balls--3 on a pan. Problem--we didn't have the light bulb it required. The light bulb is the heater. Solution: stole light bulb from bathroom. Proceeding. She inserted the 1st of the 2 pans into Mr. Easy-Bake and waited with anticipation. She turned around and that's when we heard the shrieks--baby brother had eaten all 3 of the remaining dough balls. Next the pan got stuck behind the metal flap and then Abby burned her hand. But she and Em made the best of it all and enjoyed the 3 tiny cookies (about the size of a quarter) all themselves. What a treat. And all the better when you've made it yourself!

I'm so glad she enjoyed herself despite the difficulties. Baking can be rough.

Ha! She looks like she's about to sprout horns! ;-) The 'better when you make it yourself' quip never worked like that for me; ALWAYS ten times better when someone else does it... :-)

It's tough when something that should be so simple ends up being complicated. I hate it when that happens. And that little Nathan. Wow he sure does like to put things in his mouth. Maybe he can be a taste tester at some fancy food company when he grows up!

BTW, I hope the birthday party wasn't too terribly stressful. It sounds like it might've been.

Boy, those look a lot more fancy than they did 15 years ago.

I had an easy-bake and I think it drove my mom nuts. I tried to make regular things(not just the packages that came with it) in my oven...probably not a good idea. The oven mysteriously disappeared one day. Hmm? My love for baking however, remained strong! Maybe Abby and I can swap stories...

You've just gotta gain some weight! Then you will be a good cook, You know the saying- Never trust a skinny chef..........jk

Those Easy Bakes still burn kids?! Mine always got stuck in the metal flap too! And I always got burned trying to unlodge the pan- Painful Memories............(:O)

Honestly, KJ, how many of those stinkin' things would they sell if they called the "Difficult Bake Oven"?
Truth in advertising my foot.
They should call it the "I can't believe it's not an oven oven"

I still want one! Maybe next Christmas!

lauralynn - funny enough, for me, it's not a question of being a good cook, bad cook, skinny or fat cook... can't claim to be any kind of cook at all! :-) Oh well - 'what we lack in the kitchen'... oops, um, nevermind.
