Oddballs?

This was posted on my friend Katie's blog. I got a kick out of it and it got me reminiscing...

My Dad's a taxidermist, and growing up it was not at all unusual to come down in the morning for breakfast and stumble upon a dead owl thawing out on the counter, or a skinned duck on a big meat hook suspended from our kitchen chandelier.

My Dad was also a Mr. Mom of sorts. (He even made front page of the local paper.) With his shop in our basement, he was home to handle the cooking and cleaning as well. (My mom was a public school teacher.) He took care of my sister when she was little, and I remember her playing with a little indoor sandbox made of sawdust. Dad used the same "sandbox" to dry out bird hides and such.

We didn't think too much of this stuff, but when I had friends over for dinner, they were always a little leery as to what they might be eating for supper. :)

Any unique happenings in your family?

My dad tells the same jokes over and over. Always did, always will. We finally started numbering them. Here are the most popular:
Dad joke #1: "Does your face hurt?" "No." "It's killing me!"
Dad joke #2: Why do they put fences around cemeteries? Cuz people are just DYING to get in.
He also has sneezing fits. As a family, we love to count them. 28 sneezes in a row is the current record.
I should maybe write on my own blog...

I remember being at your house and your dad teasing me by saying we were having possum for dinner. Wait....we didn't did we? ):

My mom is a children's and youth pastor. She loves visuals when giving a lesson. So much so that I've seen her dressed as a African Tribesman, Doctor, Mad Scientist, Cowgirl, Pirate, Alien and Hawiian dancer..to name a few. Then there was the time she used brains and cow tongue for an object lesson...

Always threw in the unexpected.

My Grandma always made my Mom and I matching dresses for Easter. We looked like tablecloths. I hated them. I am not sure how you can pick out material for a child and a Mother that both can wear. Perhaps that was the problem. Just for you KJ, I will post pictures of the "lovely homemade" dresses on my blog someday :)

PW, this explains a lot about you. LOL

Laura, you poor dear. I'm looking forward to the photos!

KJ, I'm trying but I just don't think this sounds weird. :) This just sounds so normal to me. I love it.
