"Mom, I kind of like it when you're gone sometimes, because Daddy spoils me a little...let's me watch TV or gives me a treat."
That's what Abby told me today when she found out I was going grocery shopping & taking Emily along.
At your house, which parent would be more likely to...
1) Give the kids a BOWL of chocolate chips right before supper?
2) Let the kids watch hours of TV so you can get something done in the garage?
3) Suggest either a rowdy wrestling match, or a muddy worm hunt @ 7:45 pm when bedtime's at 8:00?
4) Feed the children oatmeal cookies for both supper & breakfast the next morning while the other parent is gone overnight? (And then try to claim it was "healthy" since there were OATS in them.) My personal favorite.
It's been said that in most families, one parent is more of a disciplinarian, and one is usually more of a softie. Is this true at your house? Guilty here. Can you guess who is which?

You know who it is here! Hey, you forgot to list the ice cream cones. hehe :)
That was a quick response--I just posted 2 seconds ago! My mind is blanking...what about the ice cream cones?
There are a LOT worse things to eat than oatmeal cookies!
I'd say candybars for dinner would have been worse. : )
Erin, so are you the softie?
It's good we balance each other out. I'm more for order and consistency and 5 servings of fruit/veggies a day, while although not extreme, my better half mixes things up once in a while. Brings home the doughnuts...
Remember he fed them ice cream cones for dinner or something?
Sounds like it...
When we're home without guests Cheryl wears her dressage boots and carries a riding crop. (the crop is shorter than the whip she uses for lungeing and doesn't knock over the stuff on the shelves)
I'm the one who gives the kids cookies for their meals and lets them ride bicycles on the roof.
I don't think we've been parents long enough to distinguish those roles yet. There are times when we are both pretty strict, and times when we both spoil her a little. I guess if I'm being honest, I believe Jared will end up being more of the disciplinarian, but so far we've agreed on almost everything.
I just love that oatmeal cookie story...I will never let him live that one down!
Danielle, Oh yes, I think you're right! You and I got to go out by ourselves or something. And I think we were joking that he might only feed them ice cream cones...and lo and behold! I do love that man.
PW, I'm with you...5 servings a day, etc., but also on the fact that it's good we balance each other out! Wade brings home the donuts, too. Literally. So glad for the fun he adds.
In case anyone's wondering, I read my post to Wade before I posted it. He smiled and asked if I was picking on him. ;) It's all in love and good humor.
Swampy, bikes on the roof? I hope you're kidding. And Cheryl with a whip? Where do you come up with this stuff?
:)
Naomi, it will be interesting to see how the roles emerge when Sophia hits the toddler stage--time will tell!
Matthew is totally the big softie and I'm the drill sargeant. Also, Matthew can reason anything into a food group. I believe he considered Cheetos a dairy product at one point.... The kids love it though.
Katie, Matthew & Wade think alike! Has he tried to pass Jelly as a fruit serving?
