Anybody Anybody?

Does anybody have any good Halloween costumes they're not using that they would be willing to lend to Abby? (She's in 2nd grade, age 7&1/2.) We've done the princess thing already a few times and cheerleader, too.

I think Nathan's going to be a lion, and Emily may want to be a princess again. Figuring out their costumes always stresses me a little as we're not into forking out much money for costumes, and I'm not into sewing--nor am I very creative in this department!

Any suggestions would be appreciated. :)

We dressed Max as a pile of leaves a few years ago and we dressed as farmers with a rake. You could use any clothing as a base and glue or sew fake leaves to it. Hot glue worked great for me, and the leaves were inexpensive at a local craft store.

Another cheap idea along those lines, is going as a bunch of grapes. Blow up purple or green balloons and pin them tightly together all over her clothes. I'll be back if I come up with more ideas.

My favorite costume was a gypsy. (sp?) I wore one of my mom's skirts, tights, and a couple shirts and scarves. I don't know if your girls ears are pierced, but hoops would complete the ensemble.
They key is to LAYER colorful clothes, but don't go too far--you don't want her to look like a bag lady.
Or, she could go as a bag lady.

When I was a girl, it was about an hour until trick or treat time and we still hadn't thought of a costume. So my Mom put black tights on me, put a hole in the bottom of a black garbage bag, pulled it over my head, stuffed it with small pillows, tied it around my legs, and sent me off as a "Burnt Marshmallow". Worked great cause it started raining:)

We have a scarecrow, a corncob or clown available. Of course they will all be covered up in a snowsuit and a parka on Halloween, but you are welcome to them!!

I like the bunch of grapes idea.

What about a slice of pizza. You could get a piece of tagboard and cut it into a big triangle, maybe two pieces. Glue it to cardboard to stabilize it and then add the toppings that Abby likes. Abby could probably decorate her own pizza too, with construction paper or felt?

I know you said you've done the princess thing, but I have a really pretty Cinderella costume if you wish. I'm going as "static electicity" this year - pure black with all those mismatched socks safety pinned all over me.

One year I found some fabric that looked just like corn kernels and I sewed a tube with armholes, made a ittle corn husk hat and Hannah went as a corncob--hilarious! Carla has that outfit if you want to talk to her. I used to love making costumes. Maybe we can come up with something.

Thanks for the ideas everyone! I'm still thinking...the easier the better...I'm liking the corn cob idea...I'll see what Abby thinks about being a vegetable--er, uh, a grain...

Still looking? I've got a brand new Minnie Mouse Dress that Mikayla never wore ... tag still on it. But then maybe Minnie Mouse is not really second grade material.

How about have her swadel a doll and go as a midwife ;-)
