Wait...Timeout

Nathan came running up to tattle on Abby.
Nathan: "Mommmm--Abby sssthep on me!"
Abby soon followed behind.
Abby: "Mom, I stepped on Nathan."
Me: "On purpose?!"
Abby: "Mmm-hmm. May I have a timeout, please?"

Timer set for 7 minutes.

Emily comes up.
Emily: "Can I have a timeout, too?"
Me: (What?! These aren't a reward, people)..."Uh...OK...you'll have to do yours upstairs, though."
Emily: "OK!"

Next, what ensued over the next 3 minutes was Nathan fighting to get in the bathroom with Abby, me pulling him out, Emily then scared to go upstairs by herself, then Emily glad to have Nathan accompany her upstairs to her timeout, then Emily mad that Nathan wanted to join her in the bathroom, then Abby's timer dinging, and Emily hollering to have hers set for her alloted 5 minutes.

OK, I repeat, when did timeouts start being fun? Do they have candy and a DVD player stashed behind the toilet paper in there or what?

Sometimes Ariana will say, "Mommy you forgot my spanking." And I'm like, I can't believe she's reminding me. LOL

Time outs in the bathroom do sound kind of fun.....
You might have to move the "Time out Spot" ???? Just an Idea~
I think on the Nanny 911 show she has them sit on a dot or a carpet square- Somewhere where they can do nothing. Especially if they are put somewhere that they can see that everyone else is having fun- but they are not- because said Child was naughty.....
I guess only if it is a Serious time-out.
I think I might be rambling.....
Have a good Day!

Hmmmm. That is interesting. Maybe it was just a strange type of day. Or maybe they were getting sick of each other and they were asking for some space in their own way.

You'd mentioned that you'd found Abby somewhat disciplining/admonishing a doll the other day - and that both girls have been like 'little mommas' lately. I wonder if incorporating discipline into their play (i.e. - feeling like they have some control over it) is part of developing whatever skills they're working on during this stage... Ooh - SO makes me want to study child psychology! :-)

When I told Wade about this all later he wondered why I never asked the girls why they wanted timeouts. I have no idea why I didn't ask...just seemed fluky and then the moment passed. My take on it now, though, is: I think Abby recognized she'd done something wrong and then just wanted to get the punishment over with. Emily...I still have no idea. Neither has ever REQUESTED a timeout before. I don't expect it to become a habit. Normally timeouts in the bathroom are quite effective for them.

Oh, Amen, Stacy. 120 minutes would be glorious.
When my girls were younger, I can remember the days when they both would sleep at least 2 hours, sometimes 3 for their naps every day. I could count on that stretch of time to myself each afternoon. I would kill for that now! Nathan doesn't need as much sleep, unfortunately. In fact, now if I don't wake him up after about an hour I pay for it at night when he won't go to bed until the wee hours! Darn it!

I can relate to having our best attmpts for good behavior fail! I love how you keep your sense of humor, even if it's after the fact!
